One Month working on Pre-Operative Requirements

By |2012-09-13T09:22:58-04:00August 10th, 2010|My Story|0 Comments

Yesterday was a busy day. First it was up early to drive into downtown Portland again for my last appointment with the Psychologist; Dr. Ude was a very nice lady who made me feel very comfortable talking to her. She told me a bit about the results of my personality test and I have to say I was a little amazed at how accurate that thing was; shocked really. She basically told me I don’t like [...]

Getting a Sleep Study is Difficult

By |2012-09-13T09:22:09-04:00August 2nd, 2010|My Story|0 Comments

So after much fuss and much confusion, I finally got my sleep study ordered. Apparently my insurance requires that a “Sleep Specialist” order the Sleep Study, so I had to make two appointments, one to go in and see a Sleep Specialist which I’m gonna do on the 4th, and then he will order the Sleep Study. I’ve had sleep studies before, so I know what they are like. You go in and they glue a [...]

Checking off the Psych Requirements

By |2012-09-13T09:21:05-04:00July 30th, 2010|My Story|0 Comments

Writing here is turning out to be harder than I thought, it seems I’m just in go go go mode constantly and by the time I wind down the last thing I want to do is sit here and blog about everything I just finished doing. However, it is important to me to share my journey with anyone that wants to read about it, and so, here I am. So I had my appointment with [...]

Blood Sugars from 7/15-7/29

By |2012-09-13T09:20:11-04:00July 30th, 2010|My Story|0 Comments

A couple members of my Family were asking about my blood sugars so I figured I would share the actual numbers that I’ve been hitting the last two weeks to give them an idea where I stand. This will seem pretty boring to anyone that’s not extremely interested in diabetes and blood sugars, so for that I apologize! Date Time Blood Sugar 70/30 R 15-Jul 1:05 AM 261 60U 12U 15-Jul 4:21 AM 156   [...]

Amazing Changes

By |2012-09-13T09:18:02-04:00July 29th, 2010|My Story|1 Comment

The days are going by faster than I expected them too, but perhaps that is because I want to get to the point where I can have this surgery so bad that I can taste it, and yet, I have a lot of things to achieve before I get there. Some days I look at what I have done in the last few months, what I have achieved in such a short time frame, and [...]

Trying to be Prepared for Changes

By |2012-09-13T09:17:13-04:00July 10th, 2010|My Story|0 Comments

I don’t think that anyone that is not severely overweight can really understand the pain that we go through. I don’t think they can understand the constant insecurity, the constant stress and worry about what other people are thinking, the fear of how we are looked at, the embarrassment of being pointed at as you are walking down the street and having kids laugh at you. Teenagers are the best, you know that group of [...]

Something Other than Waiting!

By |2012-09-13T09:16:19-04:00July 6th, 2010|My Story|0 Comments

Alright, so, I heard back from the WLS coordinator at SWMC and we found out that for sure the insurance covers 85{6e74c841b8f362d8aea590534016dc569fd3035eeb9e530df8846b42682c6656} and not 100{6e74c841b8f362d8aea590534016dc569fd3035eeb9e530df8846b42682c6656} so from here on forward this is what we know for sure. Insurance will cover NOTHING pre-operative. Insurance will cover surgery, up to $25,000 Lifetime Maximum so long as all three, Surgeon, Anesthesiologist and Facility are all in network. Insurance will pay 85{6e74c841b8f362d8aea590534016dc569fd3035eeb9e530df8846b42682c6656} of contracted rate, after I’ve met my [...]

Crock Pot Black Bean Soup

By |2012-09-13T09:13:34-04:00June 29th, 2010|My Story|1 Comment

I made up a batch of this soup in my Crockpot the other day. I froze 6 servings in once cup Ziploc containers for lunches later, and kept 3 servings in the refrigerator for this coming week. I didn’t use all the liquid that was in the Crockpot at the end of cooking because I wanted the soup to be thicker. I was a little disappointed at the consistency of the soup, even after putting [...]

Medical Geek Speak

By |2012-09-13T09:12:38-04:00June 29th, 2010|My Story|0 Comments

Geek Speak.  It's when someone vastly more intelligent than you starts explaining something detailed and complex and usually since you have about zero interest in whatever the topic of conversation is, you aren’t really paying attention and hence it goes right over your head. The speaker is talking in “Geek Speak”. Now sometimes this happens because you are not familiar with the entire process of whatever is at hand. In my case last week, it [...]

Tzatkiki Sauce

By |2012-09-13T09:09:34-04:00June 28th, 2010|My Story|3 Comments

I made up a batch of this Tzatkiki sauce. I've gotten Jason to switch over to eating Pita Chips and Tzatkiki as a snack instead of Doritos Chips when he gets home from work. I love it as a substitute for mayonnaise on a half a turkey sandwich as a dip for some Nut Thin crackers ( by Blue Diamond ) or as an alternative dip for artichokes. Way less calories than mayonnaise or butter, plus [...]
